Adam Bernstein: Press

Great singer-songwriter pop, with great melodies and thoughtful lyrics. Somewhere in between Mead/Rouse/Johnston, Ben Folds (more in the manner of sensibility rather than piano) Steven Mark, Paul Schneider and Joe Ongie. Highlight track: "The Poets of Avarice". This one has serious year-end list potential.
Composer/musician Adam Bernstein's second set of original tunes is, incredibly, even better than his first, Yo Mama Yo. That disk had already set the bar pretty high in terms of quality songwriting and performance, but Dust Off The Timeless Night finds Bernstein even more focused in every way: variety of production methods and arrangements; conciseness and beauty of melodies and lyrics; beautiful and tasteful playing by his stellar cast of musicians and colleagues (including producer/drummer Marty Beller, crack sessioner Jack Petruzelli, and of course longtime friend Laurie Berkner); even Bernstein's lead vocals soar and emote in new ways. With lyrics that dig into the nature of human relationships (both with others and himself) and his search for inner and outer peace, Bernstein's work here sounds as strong as the best work of other great pop composers, past and present. Hard to name favorites, but two are Another Vote For Reincarnation and the Ballad of Adam No Bombing and Pretty Green.
